About Sheffield

Sheffield is situated in South Yorkshire, in the north of England and is a city of over half a million people. It has long been known internationally for steel production and products such as cutlery.

Today, Sheffield is a thriving centre of business and a great place to live, work and do business. It is also very green; there are more than 200 parks in Sheffield and, for all its industrial heritage, has the highest ratio of trees to people in any city in Europe.

Sheffield is graced by two historic football clubs: Sheffield Wednesday, and Sheffield United (the latter being one of the oldest football association clubs in the world).

Sheffield’s Peace and Winter Gardens beat London’s South Bank to gain the Royal Institute of Architects Academy of Urbanism “Great Place” award.

Sheffield has long history of musical achievement and acts as diverse as the Arctic Monkeys, Joe Cocker, Pulp, and Def Leppard were born or established in Sheffield. It also has two theatres: the Lyceum and the Crucible (which is the home of the snooker world championships).

Useful tourist information can be found on the Sheffield City Council website.
